Hunter Valley Weekend
TMRA members met once again at the Station Hotel, Kurri Kurri, for our annual Hunter Valley Ric Lord memorial run—Ric being a member of the Road Barons, a bike club formed in the late sixties and many of whose members were instrumental in establishing TMRA and are still keen riders with us.
Saturday 16 November dawned clear and cool, which was a surprise to us all as we were expecting smoke and heat. Our route took us through the lovely though unusually dry Wollombi Valley and surrounds, with morning tea at the Yarramalong general store, before we headed up the good-riding Bumble Hill Road. Nearly all of us were on moderns this year, although Tim and Sav happily cruised along on their classics—with Sav even deciding to ride a bit further than everyone else at one stage! (eventually Danny hooked up the Cosworth Trident and reeled him in)
Many of us had a chuckle as we approached Lemming Corner, on the Great North Road—apparently over the years many motorcyclists have gone over the edge, although the couple of trouble-making curves have now thankfully been realigned. The 17 or 18 riders had a great lunch at the lovely old Bellbird Hotel, Bellbird being more or less a south-western suburb of Cessnock, before we returned to Kurri Kurri for a little more socialising. Unfortunately Shirl couldn’t make Kurri this year, so we missed her trademark Saturday evening pre-dinner repast (and her conversational ripostes!).
Thanks to Jim P for organising a great weekend, and to Woody for carrying out ride captain duties for our almost-200km Saturday tour.
No more rides planned for a while, but note that our 2020 Bega Bob ride is likely to be on Anzac Day and Southern Triples Rally in March at Daylesford again weekend of March 13, 14, 15.
In the meantime, enjoy your local rides and stay safe!
